Notes From Maestro Amado:
2 serenades and a chamber symphony:
For me, one of this season’s biggest highlights is the powerful contrast of Beethoven’s serenade for flute, violin and viola--a lucid, well-lit masterpiece—finely etched and well behaved—with Schoenberg’s rarely heard first Chamber Symphony—a torrid, dense, emotionally complicated, riot-inducing masterpiece which, in spite of its obvious dissimilarity to the Serenade, owes every note, every rebellious turn, every subversion in one way or another to Beethoven.
